Does the new zappi have an added smart feature?

New RCD, new safety measures, can be combined with PME earthing, 3-phase option, 3 Cts instead of 2...

What is the difference between the new zappi and the current model? Do I have to postpone my installation to get the new version?

That is a personal preference. The current zappi is fantastic and works well with the hub and app. The new zappi offers more installation options and has a 22kW and untethered option.

What is required to install the new zappi?

(Circuit Breaker or 30 mA Type A RCBO) 40A 2-pole curve B (1-ph version), 40A 4-pole curve B (3-ph version)

How many CTs are available?

1 for the 1-ph version and 3 for the 3-ph version

Is the new zappi compatible with other myenergi devices?


How does the PEN fault technology work? How can I avoid installing a TT earth system with an earth pin?

In the event of a PEN fault, zappi is completely isolated from the input supply. This means that all electrical conductors surrounding the output socket or cable - including the protective earth and control signals - will be safe and the risk of electric shock prevented. Zappi complies with the requirements of BS 7671:2018, 722.411.4.1 (iii).

What is the minimum charge level for the 3-phase Zappi?

In all cases, the EV is the limiting factor. Some EVs cannot be charged with a 3-phase and can therefore only be charged with a 1-phase. The power supply is also limited by the EV, usually it is 16A, 30A or 32A. If your EV can be charged with 3-phase, then zappi has the possibility to charge at a low rate by using only 1-phase.

1-Phase charging range : 1.4 kW → 07 kW
3-phase charging range : 4.1 kW → 22 kW

Can I charge at different rates in the 3-phase charging?

No, when you charge with the 3-phase, the rate will be determined by the EV and will be the same in all phases.

Can the new 3-phase zappi be connected to a single phase?

Yes, it behaves like a standard 1-phase zappi. But, only the 1 CT input will be available.

Can I swap an existing 7kW charger with the zappi?

Yes, you can do that with the 1-phase Zappi. The operation is very similar, but make sure you connect with the additional CT sensors.

Can the zappi be installed alongside my existing charger without overloading my stock?

It depends on your installation. You can install zappi by using a circuit breaker in your current main installation and setting up a 'Grid Limit', thus ensuring that you do not trip your main fuse. Or you can install zappi from a second installation and connect a sensor that acts as a 'Group Limit' to ensure that your second supply is not overloaded in addition to the 'Grid Limit'. But don't forget to ask your energy supplier if you can install a second charging point.

Can you switch between 3-phase and 1-phase charging?

A 3-phase zappi connected to a 3-phase supply can be installed to leave in ECO mode with only 1-phase. It is very useful when you want to charge at a low rate to measure your surplus in ECO mode, but you have the option to charge at 22kW in FAST mode or by using the Boost function.

Can you charge a single-phase EV with a three-phase zappi?

Yes, absolutely!

How do ECO and ECO+ modes work when charging with 3-phase?

In all cases, 3-phase means you get the same current from all phases. In general, the electricity meter 'nets' all phases, and so does zappi. You can have the import on one phase and the export on another, the total is then 0. Zappi makes sure it stays 0 during phases. If the available surplus is too low for 3-phase charging, you can switch to 1-phase charging, which allows you to start charging as early as 1.4kW surplus.

What can I measure with the Cts on the 3-phase Zappi?

With a 3-phase zappi, the Cts should be connected to a 3-phase load (grid, generator, battery, etc...). You cannot connect different types of Cts, they must be installed at the same location. This is different for the single-phase version of zappi, which can measure 3 different (single-phase) loads (grid, generator and battery for example).

Which EVs can be charged with 3-phase?

The Renault Zoé, the Tesla, the BMW i3, the B-Class electric.

I am still installing the current zappi, what are the requirements?

If you are replacing an existing charge point, you can install it without the new regulations. If it is a new installation, a Type B RCD or a Type A + 6mA DC must be fitted as well as an earth pin in most cases. Follow section 722 of the 18th edition for details of installation.

What does the eddi do?

The eddi converts energy imported and exported from the grid. Energy generated by your PV installation or other system that would normally be exported is a surplus. The eddi uses this surplus to charge up to 3.7kW or to heat water/stock, thus preventing it from disappearing into the grid.

How is converting energy to a resistance load beneficial for me?

As much as 80% of the energy you generate can be returned to the grid as surplus. The eddi can help you use 100% of your self-generated energy, which is completely free.

How does eddi help me save money?

Eddi makes it possible to store energy like hot water or heating when you are not there. Later on you can use this free hot water in your home. Without Eddi you would spend a lot more money on heating your water. It is better to use the energy you generate yourself when it is available.

With eddi you can use 100% of your own green energy, therefore with eddi you can save up to € 250 per year and even more if you use electricity to heat the water in your house. The higher the normal price you pay for your energy, the more you will save with eddi.

Do eddi and zappi work together?

Absolutely, it is always best to install myenergi products together. You can specify where the energy should go, eddi and zappi then work together to use as much free energy as possible.

What is Varisine?

Varisine technology ensures that the energy from eddi is of the same quality as the electricity that enters your home from the grid. This technology is the reason that eddi complies with all CE product directives.

We always advise you to read up on whether your products comply with the standards. When you choose cheaper energy converters for your hot water, for example, it does save money at the beginning but in the end it can also cost you extra money.

Why not install a cheaper energy inverter like a phase inverter?

Devices with phase angle measurements have to deal with large loads (up to 3kW) which creates unwanted harmonic currents in your electrical system. This can cause electrical and radio interference, overheating and damage to the inverter and other electrical devices and equipment.

By using PWM (varisine) as a control method, eddi is the only device on the market that complies with legal obligations regarding the limits for 'harmonic current emissions' and other important EMC standards.

What if I do not have a hot water tank?

You can still use eddi if you have an electric microgen system and the following:
- Electric storage heaters (the eddi is suitable for Economy 7 and 10)
- Electric underfloor heating
- Space saving electric heaters
- Another electric load up to 3.7kW with a mechanical thermostat
